Superfast Programme Update 24th April 2015

The number of premises reached by the national Superfast Broadband programme has hit two million. Hampshire's own Superfast Broadband Programme has recently achieved its target of reaching over 54,000 premises by the end of the 2014-2015  financial year, enabling people to ‘switch on’ to broadband speeds of between 24 and 76Mbps. Including Government funding, Hampshire County Council and its partners are investing more than £26 million which will provide Superfast Broadband access to at least 95% of homes and businesses in Hampshire by 2018.

In the last fortnight a total of 47 cabinets across the county have been enabled with Superfast Broadband, offering Superfast speeds.

These new Superfast cabinets are located throughout the county, demonstrating the extensive reach of the programme and the commitment to provide as many premises as possible with Superfast Broadband.

The latest cabinets to be enabled cover parts of: Aldershot, Alresford, Andover, Bentley, Bishops Waltham, Bransgore, Fareham, Farnborough, Hamble, Hartley Wintney, Herriard, Kingsclere, Liphook, Locks Heath, Medstead, Milford on Sea, Overton, Rowlands Castle, Rownhams, Sway, Titchfield, Totton, Wallop, Weyhill, Wickham and Winchester.

These additional cabinets bring the total number enabled by the Superfast Broadband Programme to 238

BT and Hampshire County Council are currently undertaking the planning of Wave 2 of our project to extend coverage from 90% to 95% of premises. We will be able to release more detailed information regarding Wave 2 later this year – probably after September.
