Fibre to the Premises

The Hampshire Superfast broadband programme has started to roll out Fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband connections as part of its ongoing drive to improve internet access and speeds across the region.

FTTP also known as Fibre to the Home (FTTH) runs directly from the telephone exchange into your home or businesses.

What is FTTP?

It is a 100% fibre connection that is installed straight into individual properties. There are no copper wires involved, which means it’s extremely fast and reliable.

How fast is FTTP?

FTTP can offer speeds of up to 1Gigabit per second, which is why it is sometimes called ‘Ultrafast broadband’. However, the speeds you get depend on the package you buy from your internet service provider. You should choose a package to suit your needs and budget.

Are there any downsides?

FTTP isn’t always as cost-effective as FTTC and installation can be more expensive. Also, as with all new infrastructure, there will almost certainly be some disruption in terms of digging requirements in order to lay cables.

What’s happening in Hampshire?

We are committed to enabling more than 97% of the county to access superfast broadband with a minimum download speed of 24Mbps, whether via FTTC or FTTP.

FTTP is being installed in areas of the county where it is the most viable option and where FTTC doesn’t necessarily provide the best outcome because of geographical or technical restrictions.

Can I get FTTP?
